*Trouble shooting
If you do not know which wire is connected to a router, or a hub then remove one wire at a time, until the computer does not connect to the internet. Reconnect the wire if the computer still connects to the internet, and then remove the next wire until the computer does not connect to the internet.
If you have a cell phone with a camera then take several photos of the wiring to help you reconnect everything.
Now that you know which wire goes to your computer mark it with a piece of tape.
If you have disconnected a router from the modem you may have to pull the power cord from the back of the Netopia modem, and replug it back in to allow the computer to connect to the modem. It will take a few seconds for the modem to come back up.
If you are still having problems with the computer connecting to the modem then click
START
Control Panel
Network Connections
Look for Local Area Connection
Right Click on the computer icon, and a screen will pop up. Left click on Properties. The Local Area Connections Properties Screen will be shown. In the box scroll down until you see Internet Protocol [TCP/IP]. Left click on Internet Protocol [TCP/IP]. The Internet Protocol screen will appear. If the Obtain an internet IP address automatically is checked then you are good to go. If Use the following IP address is checked then we need to write all of this information down on a piece of paper. Change the selection from Use the following IP address to Obtain an IP address automatically. You should now be able to connect to the Netopia modem. If you cannot connect then you have more troubleshooting to do.
