SCROLL DOWN TO MAR 9TH!! TWO MONTHS AFTER THE BURN!
IT SURE IS LOOKING GREAT!
Friday Jan 9 2009 Day 1
My wife burned her arm on Fri. She has second degree burns.
The burn did not look that bad at first. As time went by it looked worse,
and worse!
My wife has always had a high tolerence for pain, but she is really showing
how tough she is. The Emergency room nurses, and doctors were stunned
how high her tolerence for pain is. They could not believe it. They said most
people would be screaming as they clean the wound, and dress it.
She did not make one noise!
My wife has been a real champ!
Thank you to all of our friends, and family who have come to our aid.
We really appreciate it!
Day one right after the fire. These photos were taken as we waited in the Emergency waiting room.
If you burn yourself put your hand under water right away! This is highly recommended by doctors. Do not put on butter, or any creams.
For the comfort of the burn patient you can put a hand towel over the burned area, and pour water on to the hand towel. This is recommended by the doctors. Use sterile water from the pharmacy if you can.
The only treatment for the burns that you see in this picture is medicine called Silverdyne. It cannot be purchased on a shelf! You can only buy it through a prescription. Talk to your doctor about auto refill options.
We had to pay a doctors visit to get new Silverdyne! We had to go to the doctors office every other day just to get a prescription! This was a lesson learned for us. We used a tube of silverdyne about every two days.
You will spread silverdyne all over the burned area. You will apply it as you would decorating a cake with icing. On top of the silverdyne lay 4X4 gauze bandages. You will then take a bandage wrap, and wrap the arm.
There is a product called a sock. This is a tube that you run up the arm. This protects the bandages from getting dirty from daily walking around, and tasks.
The tube also applys a little pressure on to the wounds. It helps relieve some of the pain.
My wife says the wound likes to be in a "cacoon".
There is not much else that can be done, except wait for time to pass, and your wound to heal.
Watch for infection. My wife had an infection, but she played tough, and never said anything. We went to the doctors finally, and they gave her antibiotics, and that cleared up the infection, and took away the pain.
The infection was under the skin, and you could not see it.
The skin that she has around her fingers, and the top of her hand around Feb 18 is sensitive. Everywhere else she is just fine.
We do not believe there will be any scarring.
Everything is turning out to be OK after all!

Note: The blister has formed a perfect heart shape. I told my wife this is her mom (who passed away) sending her a message of love to Brenda from heaven.

Being bandaged up in the emergency room.

If you are squemish then do not go beyond this point!
Saturday Jan 10 Day 2

Sunday Jan 11 2009 Day 3
The blisters swelled beyond anything we had expected!

This is after the doctor drained the blisters. Note: Notice how swollen the fingers are.

Silverdine is the white medication on her arm.

MARCH 9 2009
HERE WE ARE AT MAR 9TH! THIS IS TWO MONTHS AFTER THE BURN. THE HAND, AND ARM IS LOOKING PRETTY GOOD!
THE SKIN IS PRETTY SENSITIVE ON THE HAND, AND YOU HAVE TO BE CAREFUL NOT TO GRAB HER HAND, OR BUMP IT.
ON THE FINGERS THE SKIN APPEARS TO BE VERY, VERY THICK, AND COURSE. IN TIME WE WILL FIND OUT IF THIS WILL GO AWAY, OR NOT.
